Westy finishes 2nd for CAME Yamaha at Cadwell Park

After a qualifying in a disappointing 7th place on the grid James Westmoreland dug deep and managed to carve his way through the field and was up to third on the twelfth lap before passing Wilson to finish 2nd for CAME Yamaha. Billy McConnell by contrast qualified second behind Sam Lowes and had a reasonable start off the line and by the first corner he was in fourth. McConnell was on a charge and went from fourth to second at the Hairpin and then looked set to challenge Lowes for the lead before making a pass at the Gooseneck as the pair ran side by side, the championship leader attacked straight back but unfortunately Billy crashed out on the third lap at the Gooseneck.

Westmoreland said: "I got a really good start and it was possibly my best start of the year but got boxed in towards turn one and had to roll. I finished lap 1 8th. I knew it would be hard to pass around here, and it took a few laps to get my brain into gear at where I could pass. I knew I could run with the leaders, but that meant going with them on lap 1. The win was pretty much out of the question from the first lap! I kept my head down and started to move forward. Everyone was lined up behind Ben Wilson, and there was a 6 rider train. One by one I fought my way to the front with some good passes, and by lap 12 I was 2nd. Sam Lowes had gone by this point, and when the red flag came out after 14 laps I was awarded 2nd place. It was a difficult weekend, it seemed though our whole weekend counted for nothing, and only race day was when we could start properly going forward. I lacked a bit of drive off the corners in the race as we had gambled with a change for the race, or I’m sure my CAME Yamaha would have been even stronger, and shown what a great job my team and everyone at Raceways does. I was happy with 2nd, it was damage limitation and I had to work hard for that one. A big thank you to my team for all the hard work over the weekend and sorry for my crash.

We now move onto Croft, the championship is still alive, but its going to be difficult. I always give 110% and I’m happy that I did that yesterday. Congratulations to Sam Lowes and GNS Racing, there doing a great job this season. After been misquoted prior to Cadwell, my objectives for the remaining 3 rounds are the same as they have been all season, to keep the pressure on, and try to win races and the championship for CAME YAMAHA. There is no bad feeling from my side thats for sure....Finally I would like to wish Joe Dickinson a full and speedy recovery after his nasty crash."
